Distressing news reached Antonin regarding the Countess of Carlevaro. Emilia Capitani, or someone who bore a marked resemblance to her, had been found dead, leaving the vassal house bereft of a clear leader. While she had sons, the House had the unusual aspect of selecting their next leader rather than relying upon the typical inheritance laws to settle the matter. That in turn required him to request the presence of those Capitanis present in Bordelaix in his study to discuss and select the new Count (or Countess).
He also requested that his Duchess be present. Catalina had a good mind and an ability to bring clarity to complicated decisions that the Duke felt could prove invaluable. Her presence might also bolster the eligible ladies to stand as viable candidates for the post of Countess. Antonin was open to either option; he was far more concerned with maintaining the House's stability and ensuring that Carlevaro continued to develop under the new leader. The people there deserved no less and he would see that they received it, no matter what.
The meeting was established not in his study but due to the number of people, Antonin deferred to Catalina's proposal that they hold talks in the more comfortable morning room. Due to the hour, he requested refreshments be prepared to stave off any peckishness and maintain focus. A tray of tea and coffee, along with finger foods was readied while the Duke and Duchess awaited their guests. It was time to shake the House and see who rose to the top as the cream of the crop.
