Reed felt like he was being weighed and measured by all three. Prince Julien had not said much beyond a polite greeting, but he could feel the young man's eyes on him, his ears picking up every thing that was said or not-said. Though he had initiated this meeting, he knew he wasn't really in control of it. The Crown Princess had neatly taken the reigns of the conversation and now she was testing his paces as she pleased. It was a little nerve-wracking, but he took one question at a time, trying not to let his dis-comfort show, especially when the talk turned to Marcus.
He knew it was coming, seeing where they were, the conflicts that were simmering between Deveraux and Romanov, and how observant the Princesses were. That didn't mean he liked being pinned down, or that he was going to betray his friend, but he thought on how to answer Nicolette without coming across as dis-respectful while being discreet. He was loyal to both, and now he felt that they were trying to change that. Reed frankly did not like it, but that was the nature of politics.
"We are long-time friends, Your Highness is correct. There have been some marriages between our families, as you know." Reed's answer was honest but short, waiting for her to start revealing where this was going. Nicolette had a point and a purpose, he had learned that already. When she brought up Wilhelm, he controlled himself, trying not to show surprise at the unexpected question. "I would not say I'm as familiar with him, no. But he is Lord Romanov's heir currently, assisting him with the barons under the Romanov banner." Reed wanted to ask why, but that was too obvious a question. Instead, he went quiet again to wait.
