Nicolette sat on the information regarding the long-ago established betrothal between Stephane and House Sinclair, debating how best to proceed. Aware that her cousin would not only steadfastly refuse to the betrothal, heaven forbid the marriage itself, she also had the distinct feeling that Stephane would view this akin to a declaration of war between them once she informed him she would honor the agreement. Certainly her inspection of the documents confirmed them as valid and binding; if the Deverauxs reneged on the agreement, the Sinclairs had every right to seek redress.
They could ill afford enemies, no matter whether Nicolette or Stephane was next in line for the throne. The Sandovals were in Bordelaix, all but frothing at the mouth for the opportunity to retake the throne and reclaim their legacy. Nicolette did not intend to expose the family's metaphorical throat to that pack of ravening wolves, curious to discover if Stephane would be so foolish.
A politely worded request was dispatched to her cousin, soliciting his company after breakfast to discuss a point of mutual interest. Their meeting - if Stephane deigned to appear - was set to occur in her study, ensuring privacy and no untimely or unwelcome interruptions. The guards stationed outside the study were instructed to firmly rebuff any who sought to enter regardless of identity. Only if there was a true emergency or they heard a fracas were they to enter the study once the Prince arrived.
Satisfied that the guards would do their part, the Crown Princess settled into the chair behind the desk, once more lifting the documents to scan the information as she waited for her cousin to arrive. Of one thing she was deadly certain - this would not go well.
