Character Name: Salvatore Deliambre
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Birthdate: July 23, 1404
City / Region: Catanara, Calandria
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Deliambre
Played by: Joshua Sasse
Appearance:
Tall, with the typical Deliambre coloring of brown hair and blue eyes, Salvatore carries himself like what he is - a knight of honor, chivalry and dignity. His chain mail is burnished, his plate is polished, his boots are well oiled, almost to a high shine. His beard (something he hasn't been without since he was seventeen) remains as well-trimmed as his hair. Salvatore takes fastidiousness almost to an extreme; he will bathe several times a day if needed.
Personality:
Honorable. Salvatore is the epitome of honor. He studies it, lives and breathes the concept of personal honor and maintains his scrupulously. Honor is a luxury that Salvatore knows that he can afford, so he does so.
Imperfect. He is innately flawed, but he strives to overcome it with practiced manners, exquisite courtesy and chivalry. But he has fire in his blood and a temper that is frequently tested. Salvatore has a short fuse, one that frequently taunts him like a devil perched on his shoulder, whispering damnation in his ear.
Loyal. He is unshakable in his loyalty both to his family, and to his charges. Salvatore will put his life on the line, he will endure torture before he turns, despite the king's increasingly erratic behavior. His loyalty, however, rests with Alexandre's daughters, rather than with the King himself. And to anyone who bears the name Deliambre, there is little he will not do.
Reserved. Like all Deliambre, Salvatore is an intensely private man, one who dons a pleasant mask in public company. Few know what goes on behind it that are not his sister Carlotta, his cousin Antonin, or his father. He has feelings and emotions in aplenty, but strives not to reveal them. To a Deliambre, emotional vulnerability is unacceptable.
Charming. He oozes charm in abundance, especially with the ladies. A quick wit, a gilded tongue and an ability to turn a pretty compliment have worked well in his favor. He has his sister to thank for that.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
- skilled swordsman
- skilled tactician
- field medicine
- tracking/hunting and foraging
Background:
As the first-born son of Sergio Deliambre, Salvatore knew that he was far removed from the line of inheritance; anything that he craved, he would have to earn. From the day of his birth, he had been told that the world was his oyster for the taking if he had the courage, the strength and the will.
So, from the age of four, Salvatore told his sister that he was going to be a knight. Taking up a wooden blade he could barely lift, Sergio found his son trying to learn its use alongside the older Deliambre boys. Inordinately proud of his son's determination, Sergio sent his son as a page to one of the renowned Deliambre knights to begin his training. Unfortunately, that meant parting from his sister Carlotta, but he threw himself into learning reading and writing with the same fervor as he did the sword, the shield and riding so that he could write to his sister with news of his advances.
Nature smiled on him, allowing Salvatore to grow sufficiently tall and broad enough to successfully wield a broadsword and shield, to don plate armor or chain, and to lead a charge both on horse or on foot. His lessons did not stop there; the knight to whom he was apprenticed made it abundantly clear that knighthood was not merely displayed on the field of battle, but in the courts as well. He would not have Salvatore less than the perfect knight - instruction in music, dance, conversation, courtly manners, heraldry and chivalric customs joined the daily workouts. As he grew closer to manhood, his education expanded to include tactics, leadership, field medicine and the tools his uncle felt would serve him well as a member of the Order, Salvatore's newest goal.
As his uncle was a member of the Order, he intended Salvatore to stand as his replacement when the time came to lay down his sword. The younger knight's invitation came with his twenty-first birthday, granting him a rank in the Royal Guard and a place in Bordelaix. Fortunately, Carlotta was able to join him there; the two of them have entered the service of the Royal Princesses of Archades.
He knows the time is coming where he will be tested by them, looking forward to proving himself truly.
Writing Sample:
Cesare was due with the tide that morning, his ship spotted on the horizon flying the Deliambre colors. The news came with the Duke's breakfast, acknowledged quietly as per usual. Septimus had a schedule to keep but ensured that he remained within the castello against his brother's arrival. It was Cesare's habit upon making port to seek out his eldest brother and debrief on the journey. He had little doubt this time would be the same, ensuring that a fresh bottle of porto was breached and a pair of crystal glasses were at hand to be filled when his brother was admitted.
Some habits were meant to be maintained; the sharing of a glass of the rich, tawny wine to celebrate a brother's safe return was among them. Windows of the study stood wide to catch the rising breeze as Septimus stood by one, looking over the river. He thought best in that position, and there was a great deal on which he had to ruminate. It was in that stance that Cesare found him, hands clasped behind his back as he stood straight and tall with shoulders back and chin up, eyes resting on the clouds beginning to mass for the day's brief rainstorm.
