Kael had recently suffered a great sadness. It wasn't one of those that started off all right, and then after some passage of time the dull but heavy weight of sadness made itself known until it consumed you whole. It was instead one which had broken his heart to start with, and had yet to stop bleeding. He logically thought that he was being dramatic, overly sensitive, over protective. This was expected, this was good, this was exactly what she'd wanted. Truth was, it didn't matter what logic told him, it still hurt beyond understanding.
It had only been one week so far, but his sister and twin, his partner in life to date, had taken up service with the Princess Mariette. Gwynevere and him both had come to Court with certain aspirations, and to have hers realized at nearly the highest possible degree was amazing and beyond what they could hope for. He was happy for her, for she had seemed happy for the arrangement, but what that meant was a permanent distance between the two. For this last week or so, she had lived in the castle proper, away from the Deschenes home, and away from Kael.
He had waiting far past long enough. He needed to see her again, if perhaps to see her face, to be encouraged to hear she was doing well, and simply to bridge the distance that was so recently created. He consciously did not blame her for it, but it was still she who had left him at this point. He knew that he too had hoped to find a place among the courtiers, but to date he'd not managed it, and perhaps if he could do so he too would get to stay and at least the space between them wouldn't be as horrible as if he was leaving her here when he returned to Forestier.
A letter had been drafted and sent to the castle by a servant, and hand through hand exchange eventually he received a response. He had hoped to set a time he might come see her, when she was free from immediate service. A time was thus set and he dressed as polished as he could manage it given the location, then headed where he had been directed to meet his sister within the chateau grounds.

Couldn't remember if we said they'd meet in the castle so I have tentatively placed the thread there but it can be moved.
