It was not unfamiliar to him, this half light of pre dawn. When the sky was still inky and black, dotted with gem like stars, and the horizon in the east just barely watery blue wedged with green. He, and the people of his family, and of the city, they were farmers, and early risers. Often up well before the sun. Thorne was no exception, but this time, a hunting party had come together int he stabled. Horses being pulled from their stalls, saddles put on as they ate from feeding bags. He could hear the hounds already whining and restless to run with them. Thorne quietly and sleepily stroked the neck of his horse, waiting until they were ready to set out. Arrows fletched the day before, in quivers on either side of the horse. A bow strung up and waiting to be pulled taught.
The hunting party had set off, and they had yet to kill anything. Thorne was beginning to suspect that this was more for fun than anything else. It was turning out to be a lovely day. The morning was cool and their breath rose up in a fine fog, but as the day progressed, it would grow warmer, only to fall back into chill as the sun set. But thinking about the end of the day, and the meal that could be had, Thorn wished for some quiet so that the animals would not be alerted to their presence.
He knew these woods, he would always find his way back home, and bringing someone along would only make his idea better. Stéphane was not too far away, and he was indeed a friend. Sure, Reed and Rowan would be fine companions, but they were leading this hunt, and would be missed.
“Stephane, what do you say to breaking off? Theres too much noise here, and everything is staying away.”
He would go off on his own, no matter what his friend had stayed with the group, but the little smile on Thornes face said that there would be far more fun to be had if he same along.
