"Oh, okay," Daniel commented, perhaps dumbly, to the news that Dederik already had that handled. An uncle unspecified was on a ship, already continuing the legacy at seas that their family had established. Of course Dederik had thought of this already, he was Count after all.
Rik reminded him, then, of their position in the world, especially compared to the crew on a ship, and in that perspective he was very right. They were entitled respect and to be obeyed, and especially for their connection to the all-powerful crown. "That's true," the younger of the two agreed. "Do you -- or did you, when you were on a ship -- consider that you are sailing away at the King's command? Or, well, the Queen now... but anyhow. I mean, you just said, we are vassals to Royalty, we serve at their command, so that applies to our ships?"
"Hmm," he made a sound while deep in thought. Certainly he could see how such a position was a busy one, kept to chore and chore, no time to squander away, and what free time you had was savored to recouperate ones spirits and energy. He could see how being a Squire was much the same sometimes, but he felt that with Pierre it was lofty too, because he was a Prince and so he had special duties.
"Well," he started testily, giving Dederik a certain challenging look. "What I wanted was to continue Squiring for Sir Pierre." He sighed, and continued before Dederik could jump in or chide him for pouting like a child. "But I guess I don't know now. I mean, it won't be the same. It sucks," he sighed again. He really did not like having been dropped cold like this, and his usual zest for his career had taken a hit. He was struggling to keep on the correct path. "Nothing else I really want to do though, I guess."
