As he’d promised his dear friend, he asked of his cousin an audience just one night later. The idea was that the Fontaine family had brought with them some livestock and other ventures for business they wanted to branch out for. The Fontaines resided in a mountainous area in Estersea, though not terribly far from the Seravino border. Mateo had very little to do with any of the decisions made of the business of the Montefiores. Honestly, besides his own merchant days, his shop in the capital, he wasn’t very involved. Of course given his profession and location he could offer a cultured advise, but he wasn’t in a position to make the decisions otherwise. Thankfully, Niccolo had agreed, though, and a date was set and communicated, agreed upon by both families.
The date of, late into the afternoon, Mateo had closed his shop early and come home. He took care of dressing respectably. He’d heard much of the Lady Fontaine by now, but had yet to meet her. Mateo wondered about her, what she looked like, how she was. He knew she was younger, from Matthew, and it was admittedly difficult for him to picture the woman in charge of Vielha as a petite young thing, but he tried to reserve such judgement. In the end, it mattered little. What he hoped, though, is that things wouldn’t be a complete wash, wasting his cousin’s time.
When he was ready, he waited in the common area, in the middle between the study and the entrance hall. Niccolo and his new wife, had not yet come out to join him, but he was admittedly a bit early. He would greet the Fontaines when they first arrived, being the point between the two families, as with his merchant friend Matthew. Mateo had relayed what information he had, but tried not to impart any specifics for he didn’t want to wrongly present the message, which left him to wonder how his cousin would handle this rather under-informed meeting. Then again, perhaps the Duke knew more than Mateo did, and he certainly had more experience with these things. Perhaps it was how all business was conducted between Noble Houses.

I wasn’t sure who was coming so I tagged these four, feel free to expand on it.
