The castle in Vanderhall teemed with people, too many for numerous people's comfort. Annemarie had done her duty by cousins and hosts alike, gladly returning to her work and her duties assisting Lord Alexander. The workroom was at a sufficient distance from the more public area where the royal princesses and their entourages were gathered that she felt safe about working undisturbed. This would be one of her last times to do so, she knew, as Reed had made it abundantly clear that when he returned to Lockewood... so too would she.
Best laid plans swiftly went astray, however, as she realized she needed a certain tome on herbal compounds and Alexander had a list of several books he wanted to peruse. Agreeing to venture out while he completed his notes on a recent experiment, she remembers to remove the enveloping pinafore worn to protect her dark green linen dress. With her hair confined in a sensible braid, Annemarie looked less like a Lady of House Gardiner and a noblewoman, and far more like a servant.
Making her way towards the library with the basket she habitually used to transport the books to and from the workroom, she hummed to herself, her spirits restored by the prospect of a day spent in academic pursuits before duty once more summoned her to whatever revelry or event that Lady Claudia had planned for the evening and the subsequent return to Lockewood. Pausing, Annemarie noticed a man, no doubt one of the guests, who appeared lost.
Coming closer, she cleared her throat to alert him to her presence, then inquired softly, "May I be of assistance to you, sir?"
