After being Gaston LeBlanc for so long, Pierre had no problem continuing the ruse for a few more days. After all, it was sort of fun messing with his family. They would find out one by one that he was around. Of course, word would start getting around that he was in Vanderhall, but for now, he was just going to enjoy it and do his work. There was still information to gather, and plenty of people to ask questions of. The city was a wealth of information, if he just asked the right questions of the right people.
And thus he'd spent his morning. He'd gained little that was new to him, but at least he'd confirmed a few things that he'd heard. Some were glad the Romanovs were gone, others were unsure where it left them and worried for their futures. He could understand that. The crown's presence was also causing plenty of rumors to spread, which opened up his opportunity to talk about loyalties and how people felt about the Deverauxs, and about Nicolette. It seemed some of the delegation was doing enough good in the city to cultivate relationships and goodwill toward them.
This, and the more interesting information he'd gathered, would be stored away for report to his father. Apparently there were a few who reported seeing suspicious men about in the days before the attack on the Romanovs. Unsavory characters, and not from around Vasile, nor any part of Archades. It matched the information he'd already come across elsewhere and reported to the Marshal. The number was uncertain, but he gathered there were more than a dozen easily that could be distinguished based on what the people told him.
There was so much more to this, he knew, but he just couldn't seem to find the key he needed to unlock the puzzle. It was frustrating to him, honestly. The knight had always prided himself on being the best at whatever he did. It was why he practiced so much and spent so much of his time training and honing his skills. But for some reason, he simply couldn't get the information he direly needed in this situation. He leaned against the wall of a building, keeping to the shadows as he'd become accustomed to doing, his hood up as he thought over his next steps.
