Their initial meeting at the dance had been brief, but Alexander made certain to get his face known to Nicolette. The brief discussion detailed Alexander's role within the Romanov family and a brief summary of skills and accomplishments. Indeed, by the end of it, Alexander felt as though he were trying to sell himself to a high bidder... but that was the way of courtly politics. If one wanted to move up in the world, they had to be seen.
Fortunately, Nicolette accepted the invitation for further discussion and they agreed on a time to meet the next day. Alexander went about his evening at the dance, though he made certain that he shared at least once dance with his lovely student. Something compelled him to make it happen, though he could not fully understand it. The dance may not have been the most graceful sight on the floor, but there was no denying that the man had enjoyed himself.
The following morning, Alexander almost eschewed breakfast in favor of gathering several key documents to put them into a portfolio. It was only at Annemarie's insistence that the man at least consume a pastry and have a cup of tea. Most importantly, it was best for Alexander's mind to be at peace so that it could think and flow freely in the important discussion that was to come. Appearances were another matter. The man was dressed in the clothing that befitted his station, but he also made certain to wear his Academic Pins. At first glance, the pins appeared to be mere trinkets. To academics and those in the know, the pins signified a scholar's area of mastery. Alexander doublet had three pins upon his breast. A pin for natural philosophy, one for mathematics, and an archivist's pin. The former was the largest of the three, showing that Alexander possessed knowledge in fields within natural philosophy.
The setting for the meeting was one of the many sitting rooms within the castle. The man arrived at the appointed time, waiting clearance from the knight on station. He seemed to be a well kept urban looking fellow. A tight smile was given to him. "Ah, Lord Alexander Romanov to see Her Highness, the Crown Princess."
