Gabriel’s work was hardly ever finished. In addition to ensuring that debts did not go uncollected, Gabriel’s additional tasks included gathering information and assessing the climate for possible business in the bank. That included sniffing out potential competitors. Surely the idea of a bank was not a foreign one to the people of Archades and just as assuredly, the Blackthornes would not be the only ones to explore such ventures.
Whether or not Gabriel agreed with the royal family, the capital city was nonetheless an important center of business. Nobles came traveled here on a regular basis and it was only natural that they would wish to conduct business as needed. Some business regarded additional capital to be successful and where better to get capital than a bank. The establishment of a bank in Bordelaix was therefore in the Blackthornes’ best interests.
It was Gabriel’s job to determine just how ‘safe’ the bank would be in the opulent city. To do his job, he would need information and that meant using whatever resources he had on hand. Since his precious little Nymph had flitted off to Vasile for whatever reason, Gabriel had elected to use other resources at his disposal. As such, he decided to have Corrine accompany him to the business district of the city. They had to do a touch of .. observing. Wasn’t that a more palatable term for spying?
The man dressed in his typical clothes of pure black was patiently escorting his cousin through the streets of the market. Yes, she was a tender creature, but he would keep her safe. The marketplace was teeming with activity. “What do you see?” He asked her simply, his expression blandly pleasant as his gaze shifted from person to person. The question had been left intentionally vague.
