Character Name: Juliette Deveraux
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Birthdate: December 24, 1409
City / Region: Bordelaix, Faucheux
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Deveraux
Played by: Amanda Seyfried
Appearance: Where her sisters are tall and regal, Juliette is a tiny golden haired pixie. Blue eyes reflect the seas that surround Archades. She has the same porcelain complexion and long, curling hair as her sisters, and has recently bloomed into a woman's figure that is dressed in the simplest of clothes. She doesn't often look like the youngest Deveraux princess, that's for sure, and isn't afraid of getting dusty, dirty or rumpled with her sister Mariette, but when she does exert herself, Juliette is rather lovely.
Personality: As the youngest of the four Deveraux sisters, Juliette is trying to find herself out. She lacks Antoinette's fashion sense and attitude, dressing in almost child-like style. She lacks Mariette's sunny personality. And she does not have Nicolette's regal elegance. What she does have is a definite skill for sneaking around, getting into places she's not supposed to and hearing everything she shouldn't.
Intensely loyal to her sisters, she loves them all, but she wishes they weren't so much better off then she is. It's not easy being the youngest when you have three beautiful, strong and royal sisters, even as clumsy as Mariette is. So Juliette has gone the other extreme - she tries not to be young, not to be a lady, and definitely not a Princess. She loves exploring the castle with all of its twists, turns and passages. There isn't a hidey-hole or a passage she doesn't know. Being small has its advantages! Being young means she can be over-looked. Acting like a little girl means she can be dismissed or ignored.
But she's not stupid. Instead, Juliette is almost frighteningly smart. She has a skill for languages, able to speak several languages. Her skills do extend to sketching and drawing, but she has no genuine talent for needles or sewing. Fancy-work is not her strength. She loves to ride, and is very talented equestrienne - there isn't a horse in the stables that she can't ride and have behaving like a well-trained dog.
Juliette is also able to blend in very well. She does not go so far as to disguise herself, but she also doesn't stand out. Each sister has a place in the family. Nicolette is the Queen, Antoinette is the Heir, Mariette is the Underestimated... and she is the Spy. She's very proud of that contribution.
She is very close to her sisters, especially Nicolette.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Character History: The last child born to King Alexandre and Queen Thérèse, Juliette meant that their hopes for a son were once more dashed. A fourth girl was brought into the world, another Princess. Unlike her sisters, this child was small and seemed sickly, making for worried parents. Despite that, Juliette managed to survive infancy.
As soon as she began to toddle around, her talent for disappearing and hiding came out. The despair of every royal nurse-maid and nanny, Juliette was almost always found where she wasn't supposed to be. The stables. The river. The throne room, hiding under the King's throne to listen. Antoinette's closet, much to her older sister's dismay. Or in one of the closed galleries, trying to imitate Mariette's clowning at some of the dusty old portraits. When it came to lessons, Juliette however was right on time and attentive. Her tutors found her a delight to teach, struggling to keep up with her and challenging her at all turns.
With time, Alexandre begrudgingly accepted that his daughters would have to stand as his heirs, taking greater interest in his eldest, and in some ways, his youngest. Each received instruction in what they needed to survive, but Juliette had very little interest in the sword. She learned other, less savory skills best not discussed, taking up instruction at Alexandre's order with a man he considered spy-master. It was that man who taught her how to blend in, how to be unobtrusive and the like. She could be his eyes and ears, and when the time came, for Nicolette when her sister took the throne as the first Deveraux queen in her own right.
Disappointed when she failed to reach Antoinette's and Nicolette's height, Juliette no less accepted it. Determined to be the equal of any man or woman on horse-back, she studied the skills of a rider under most circumstances, how to handle a horse when they were fractious or rebellious, how to tame the wild horses, and how to soothe the ill ones. She never learned the sword, but there were other weapons available to her, taught to her by her favorite uncle, the Marshal of Archades.
The time for marriage is likely coming, but with three beautiful sisters ahead of her, Juliette has not concerned herself with the prospects or with the silly idea of love. She intended to stay with Nicolette as long as she could, the better to protect her sister and her family.
Writing Sample: "If you wish to return early in the next week, my shipmen of new minerals should've arrived. I've asked specifically for some more of the blues I believe would suit you best. Hmm?" He tried to convince his client to be patient. While he would obey and work on a gem to her specifications right away, he honestly preferred to be sure the result would be as perfect as it could be. Though the client thought themselves most knowledgeable, he had more experience with knowing which colours suited best which dresses, skin tones, hair, and so forth.
"Yes, ok, one week Mateo, no more."
His smile doubled, though it never had really left his face. Mateo clapped his hands together, and took the lady's hand. A thumb swiped over it. "You will have your gorgeous gem soon my Lady, much in time for your travel. I will make certain of that." He bent and kissed the top of her hand, for which she affixed him with a certain look before she took her leave.
