Reed Gardiner was a morning person, without a doubt. No matter what time it was when he gave in to sleep, his eyes opened with the dawn and his feet hit the ground. That trait, he knew, was shared by most of his family, including his brother and heir, Rowan. Due to their different pursuits, the two did not spend a great deal of time together, even while in Bordelaix, a situation Reed intended to remedy that morning.
There was a horse-auction down in the city later that day, some-thing he knew Rowan would want to attend if only to inspect the quality of available horse-flesh, but for the morning, Reed wanted to work out some of his kinks and get back into the habit of some training. Who better to assist him in that endeavor (and beat him into shape) then his own knightly brother? Rowan was a superior swordsman to himself, so there was no doubt that Reed would be put through a vigorous work-out and probably gain additional skills while they were at it.
Deciding to wait for his brother in the courtyard, trusting that Rowan would be down in short-order, Reed laid out what they would need for the practice in wooden practice-blades, padded tunics, and lighted a few lanterns to chase any lingering shadows away. The movement helped to loosen his muscles and prepare him for the gymnastic bout about to unfold. All he needed now was Rowan, and tilting his head, the Duke suspected he heard his brother's ponderous foot-falls. It promised to be a very interesting start to the day.
