"Thorne, your Grace." He offered his name. He was a quiet young man, and never did much to cause notice. Let alone from the Royal family. He had no clue what he was in for, and he only hoped that the next song was calmer than the one that was coming to an end. He would either be sorely disappointed, or he would be glad. Either way, while he could not be called the best dancer, he was competent.
"I feel so strange being so formal. I'm use to hunting trips and casual conversation with your brother." Was he being too bold? He had heard of this young lady from his friend across the lake about his favorite sister. He almost felt that he should have been avoiding Martine at all costs. "He's spoken so much about you, your grace. He thinks very highly of you."
Were his nerves showing? Did he seem to be ill at ease with this whole situation. Thorne was now wishing he had chosen to stay on the outskirts of the crowd, content to listen to the music and watch the people. Even more than that, he would have much rather been studying the interesting designs that Lord Grigore had shared with him, on the condition that the original designs stay in Vanderhal. Thorne had a lot of work to do, carefully copying the measurements and drawings so that he may build and experiment on his own.

Thorne. She remembered exactly where she knew the young man from, and her smile widened just a little more. She had been quite upset that her brother couldn't make the trip with them, but at least she could have his friend here with her this evening. Her cheeks pinkened only slightly when the young man mentioned how he'd heard about her from her brother. A part of her wondered what they't talked about, what Stephane had said about her. But on the other hand, she wasn't sure she wanted to know. Men could be men together, just as women would be women together. They talked about their other halves, those closest to them. Not all of it was meant to go beyond certain ears. Besides, her brother doted on her, and she knew it. Martine realized she was rather protected and cared for, and she could never hold it against her brother. In fact, she loved him all the more for it.
"Ah yes, Lord Thorne Gardiner. Stephane has mentioned you more than a few times, often about your adventures together hunting." The conversation was nice, and she was glad for it. Though she'd been raised most of her life with the idea her brother would be king, conversations could still sometimes be awkward. She was glad Thorne was at least trying. "He is quite wonderful, isn't he? I also think very highly of him. I don't know what I would do without him." It was too bad he wasn't in Vanderhall. "I wish he could have made the trip with us. He would have loved this dance." The pair often danced together, and it was always the highlight of the evening for Martine.
"I'm afraid for political reasons, at least, my lord, we shouldn't get too casual this evening. But perhaps when I know you better..." Her smile softened any awkward or embarrassed feelings he might have had over her comment, but they really had only just met. It wouldn't be proper to allow him to simply call her by her first name only.
