Character Name:
Euria Saavedra
Age:
19
Gender:
Female
Birthdate:
June 10, 1408
City / Region:
Cervo, Estersea
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]:
Saavedra
Played by: Jessica de Gouw
Appearance:
Euria bears the dark, waving hair of a typical Saavedra, but from there, she harbors little resemblance to her cousins being pale-skinned and blue-eyed. She is also not a tall woman, and is often mistaken for sickly by virtue of her extreme sensitivity to the sun. Dressing plainly as befits a laywoman of the Dualist church, she will no doubt need a guiding hand to begin looking like the noblewoman she was born.
Personality:
Scholarly by nature, Euria is not necessarily a somber or serious young woman, but thanks to her years in the temple, she has learned to exude a curious kind of calm joy. Every day is a gift to her, bringing some new fact to learn, some beauty to observe, and some good to be done. She is soft-spoken but direct in her words and opinions, though she will choose her words with care to prevent conflict or hurt. A woman who prefers to be busy, she will simply take on tasks that she sees needs to be done without concern for the 'appropriateness' of it - Euria has long since ceased to think of herself as a noblewoman or too superior to do homely tasks, likely to the frustration (and some amusement) of her family.
Change does tend to overwhelm her, especially when it is significant change. It will be difficult for her to go from being on the verge of priesthood to being a member of a noble house, eligible for marriage. Euria has no objection to marriage, of course, though it is nothing on which she has reflected prior to now, and when faced with it, may be somewhat panicked.
Thanks to her training as a priest, she understands the need for obedience to her cousin Daario, and gives her loyalty to him and their House freely because it is the right thing to do. Feeling very much out of place, Euria is struggling to cope with all of the changes in her life, to learn what is expected of her and how to behave all over again, occasionally resulting in an outburst of temper. Still waters run very deep in her.
Despite that, she is glad to be reunited with her cousins and welcomes being part of a family once more. When she is frightened or truly overwhelmed, however, she will retreat into her books as they are what comforts and steadies her.
Specific Skills or Abilities:

Character History:
Euria Saavedra is something of a cipher where her family was concerned. Born of a low-ranked cousin who married a merchant's daughter to help fill the House coffers, she was considered a sickly child and kept confined. Sensitive to sunlight due to her extremely fair skin, she was often teased by her elder cousins as being the little princess of snow from the tales told to them by nurses and governesses, but Euria took it as a compliment. She often wished she was a princess, and pretended she was one, kept in a tower as prisoner by a sorcerer.
Her parents indulged her in this to keep the peace, but supplied her with all the books and tutots she could ever wish for to keep her occupied. Consequently, Euria was quite the little scholar by age eight, able to read and write fluently in several languages, with an avid interest in history, geography, and the cultures of other regions or nations. Nothing pleased her more than receiving a new book on a place she'd never been, or heard of, resulting in her father teasing her by calling her his little owl due to her large blue eyes and tendency to read all night if she could get away with it.
Then the Rohari attacked, changing everything for the Saavedra family. In the span of a single night, she went from cherished secret princess to terrified, hidden orphan. As the Sandmen wielded their blades, painting the castle red in blood, the girl was awakened and smuggled out to safety by one of her tutors. He knew that the girl needed to hide, to be kept safe, so he brought her to a temple of Delias where she could be taken in and housed as a scholar-novice.
Before relinquishing her to Church custody, the tutor instructed Euria firmly to tell no one of her true name. She was to be Ria Stone, the surname often given to the illegitimate in Estersea. It was for her own protection, he told her. Though she did not fully understand, Euria agreed, allowing herself to be absorbed into the Temple as this new person.
The priest-scholars kept the girl too busy to focus on her grief, providing her with continued education but also requiring practical service from her in the form of cooking, sewing, cleaning and working with the poor of the region. Taking care to remain veiled, few to none recognized her as a Saavedra, and she worked her way up the ranks of the laywomen quietly. Content in her place, her former life all but forgotten, the young woman they called Ria was prepared to take her vows and become a priestess.
However, life has a way of altering the best laid plans. Aware that Daario was in Bordelaix and that he himself was dying, the tutor reached out to advise the Count of his missing cousin...

Much as he wished to deliver that entire cursed family swift deaths, Emery knew it was not the answer. Wholesale slaughter was not for decent men, nor would either man be able to sleep at night for doing so. He grimaced, nodding. There were simply far too many of that damned family for peace of mind, and the entire Kingdom knew it. "Very likely," he replied quietly, "and much as I'd like to argue with you, I cannot. We have to play their game... for now."
For now was all he'd agree to, hoping for some divine inspiration or the like that would show them a way to turn the tables on his Prince's extortionists. The plan would have to go forward as intended, he realized, and so would more than a few prayers that war did not come of it. Emery was not so confident on that part, but time would tell.
"That doesn't guarantee they will not declare war and then offer to convene for peace," he replied quietly, seeing the guilt and the reluctance written across his friend and cousin's face. Rising, Emery went to grip the other man's shoulder in an effort to support. "Regardless, we will do what we must to preserve Lindblum and your lineage, Severin. Perhaps your lovely princess's soft heart may be won over with the truth once she is in our home."
