The Festival had begun. This was an occasion of festivities, of dance and laughter, of much drinking and socializing, of events for competition friendly or true. It was, altogether, intended to bring the denizens of Archades together, to have a common cause for which to celebrate rather than plot and scheme - not that Mateo was at all under the impression that any noble worth their grain would forget their schemes momentarily.
For the merchant Lord, this time was none too different than business as usual. If anything, the celebrations caused an upsurge in sales, either for decorative pieces to be worn immediately during the festival, for example for the upcoming ball, or for trade arrangements in the future. Being a resident in Bordelaix, it was not difficult for him to be informed of and participate in the Vendors Court. He thus had had some hired help - including his shiny new apprentice, and more than a couple of guardsmen - assist him in moving the goods from shop to court.
There, he had spent a day organizing the stalls he would be using. The goods themselves were to be transported under armed supervision at the evening's end, lest he leave them for easy poaching in the open air of the tent. He had only a sample with him, Mateo realizing that most of the work to be done would be custom orders or trade deals for later such as purchasing some gems or distributing cut jewels to farther parts of the Kingdom. Now, he could sit and "relax", socializing and trying to sell to those who stood by the sides of his make-shift-shop.
