Character Name: Perceval Beaumont
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Birthdate: April 17th, 1402
City / Region: Sauveterre, Faucheux
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Beaumont
Played by: Tom Riley
Appearance:
Perceval is hardly remarkable in looks, at least in his opinion. The man frequently wears clothing more out of functional convenience than anything else, though he can be crammed into proper clothing if forced to do so. His body carries many scars from the various experiments he has carried throughout the years, but nothing disfiguring. He does, however, frequently forget to shave and as a result, can look rather scraggy.
Personality:
Perceval is intelligent, forceful, and determined. He sees the world as a gigantic puzzle and he is determined to find that which holds it all together. This is because he believes the world is held together by forces that people do not yet fully understand. He understands that most people don’t bother with such a daunting task, but that only encourages him to further explore the world. While others in his family label him as an eccentric, he prefers to describe himself as a natural philosopher. The man is always seen taken notes, making observations and pondering new ideas. His rooms at the Beaumont estate are merely a chaotic extension of that quality.
Some good has come out of his sometimes feverish explorations, though. Perceval has explored and crossbred many of their citruses and cats. Plants, it seemed, were easier to manipulate than their ever present female companions. Despite his successes and failures, Perceval always dashes off to his next intellectual adventure and he rarely looks back. Most recently being his journey to Samartia to learn the secrets of the body and how to repair it.
This, naturally, dovetails into his faults. Perceval is irritable, impatient and blunt. Sometimes his family feels it’s best that he not be seen during significant family events for fear that he might offend someone or otherwise bungle the entire affair. This amuses and frustrates Perceval, who truly does want to help his family and will what he can to achieve their goals, but that damned dogged nature of his just keeps getting in the way!
Much like the felines they raise, Perceval’s relationship with his family is a complicated one, which was admittedly helped when he ventured to Samartia for five years. Since he has little patience for social niceties, it is not surprising that he is frequently at odds with his kin. Yet, his wicked sense of humor and good intention always seem to win out in the end. Perceval questions Amaury’s ability to lead the house, especially since he thinks his cousin’s patient and thoughtful appearance is nothing but a façade. Lisette is … a fascination to him, but in what way, he will never say.

Character History:
Perceval the first born child to Jean Baptiste Beaumont on a bright and sunny spring day. That very brightness captured his attention from the moment of his birth, looking around with an expression of wide-eyed wonder. That quality of him continued during his formative years as he proceeded to practical engulf all information given to him by family, tutors and the many books in the library. Perceval held this sort of youthful wonder about the world for many years until puberty struck and injected him with a more than healthy dose of cynicism. Many people just attributed it to him growing up and seeing the reality of the world, but the real reason is a secret kept close to his heart to this very day. Nonetheless, The Event was not enough to dampen his sense of determination to make the world more wonderful.
Because Perceval has had his head stuck in the world of natural philosophy, he has had little time for matters such as courtship and marriage. The man is convinced that no potential wife would have the patience for his studies and thus does not matter. Besides, there were plenty of other males in his family that would carry on his line. Why should he have to contribute? His mother has frequently told him that the right one would come along and ensnare his senses like no other could.
What poppycock, he told her. What poppycock, indeed..
Instead, Perceval elected to maintain his focus on his studies. The man studied and explored everything from the proper way to grow fruits to carefully selecting for desirable traits in cats to a myriad of other matters in the natural world. Eventually, his attention turned to people, but not in the way that his parents had hoped. No, he became rather fascinated with the form and function of the human body, endeavoring to learn how and why it worked. What could he do ensure the continued function of such a glorious force of nature?
Samartia held the answer for him. While Archades did have its share of physicians and whatnot, they did not possess the depth of knowledge Perceval craved. Knowing that his son would go with or without his permission, Jean-Baptiste made arrangements for a noble family within the distant and mysterious realm to take him in and hopefully learn the secrets Perceval so clearly desired. At the age of 20, Perceval left familiar shores.
The journey was a lengthy one in many ways. The path to knowledge was fraught with trials and tribulations, some of which Perceval had scarcely anticipated. His very understanding of how the world worked was flouted more than once, sometimes even painfully so. Perceval learned as much about himself as he did the human body and the nature of its function.
After five long years, he is coming home both a changed man and yet… very much the same.
Writing Sample:
“Just so,” he nodded with approval. “It is important for a knight to use all of the tools he has at his disposal. The shield is as much used for defense as it is for offense. It can be used to strike people, batter people and so on. There will be those that claim it is not particularly honorable to do so, but …” Tristan let out a slow breath. “You will come across an opponent who does not share your sense of honor.” That and the matter of honor became complicated in combat. Tristan knew.
The excitement the young man displayed seemed to quietly amuse Tristan. “Yes. Daggers are quite useful in many circumstances. It is prudent that a knight be trained in the use of many weapons, but there can be risk of learning too many styles. It is best to focus on a few and master them, rather than be a jack of all trades, so to speak.” Tristan hoped that he was making sense. This was his first squire and he realized this was both easier and more challenging than he had anticipated.
