As agreed, Kathryn awaited Pascale's arrival at the gate leading into the Harvest marketplace just before noon. Flanked by one of the Remington guards, Nicholas insisted that she take the maid with her as well, intending that the woman serve as chaperone. The two stood a little to the side of the lady herself, who shaded herself from the warm golden sunshine with a lacy parasol that cast a pattern on her dress of pale yellow. A basket was tucked in the crook of her elbow, waiting to receive the fruits of their forthcoming labor.
Her eyes were actively roaming the area, taking in the interesting sights and the scents, some of which were more enticing than others. They'd agreed to meet in time to take in a light lunch as well as seek out wedding gifts for Evony and Gregoire, and her stomach fully supported that choice. As it rumbled, she laughed softly to herself and pressed a hand to her abdomen as if to silence its demands. Hardly ladylike, that noise!
Already, Kathryn's mind was working on the pressing issue of what to give Evony and Gregoire. This was her dearest friend, the sister of her heart. She could not give any mere gift, anything typical. The problem was, she had not thought Evony would marry so soon, leaving her largely ignorant of Archades customs and the merchants from whom she might obtain a gift. It was a relief to know Pascale was struggling as well; misery loved company, in this case.
Trusting he would be along soon, she hummed to herself, continuing to look over what she could see. Time was ticking away...
