The meeting between the Count of Cervo and himself proceeded far better than even Remy himself anticipated, resulting not only in a new branch of the bank but a firm agreement between the Saavedras and the Blackthornes on several levels. He had certainly found Daario Saavedra a man after his own mind and spirit, welcoming the chance to embrace the Count not only as a businessman but a kindred spirit... and now a brother. They'd concluded their business by agreeing upon a betrothal between his brother Michel and the Lady Euria.
Remy hadn't precisely insisted on the woman, instead assuring Daario that he understood the Count's need to keep his sisters close at hand to aid in re-establishing the House via matrilineal marriages. Since Michel was the heir to Oria, a matrilineal marriage was not possible. Regardless, he felt somewhat confident that Michel would prefer the quiet, studious Euria over Lady Zianna or Lady Alaia, if he knew his brother's predilections in women at all. An escape clause, so to speak, was left for both families should the two prove incompatible, yet he had a feeling the clause would not prove necessary.
Deeming it best to advise his brother personally of the betrothal in private prior to introducing him to his intended bride, Remy requested that Michel join him for breakfast. The meal would serve to keep the discussion civil, not that either man was prone to losing their temper or raising their voice, but the shock might better be eased as a consequence. There would be questions, of that Remy was certain and prepared to answer.
Already seated at the head of the table, he'd ensured that Adele and Helena received their morning meals in their chambers to grant the two men a semblance of privacy; he had no true idea of Gabriel's whereabouts this morning, but if his middle brother wandered in, so be it. Remy kept no secrets from Gabriel, and very few from Michel.
