Gwynevere could not remember the last time she had so many butterflies in her stomach. The girl wasn’t exactly sure why Daragh and her father both agreed to accept Lord Gardiner’s invitation, or more so why they allowed Gwyn to go. After the ordeal in the forest earlier that month the girl figured both men would lock her away in the castle for the rest of the summer. Yet, when her cousin called her into his office it wasn’t for the lecture she had been ready to receive it, but rather the offering of an opportunity. It was also an opportunity for her to travel with Bree and Kael on their own, or rather their own besides their escorts. They would be representing the family on their own without the assistance of an older family member. For as much fun as this trip would be they knew it they also had the duty to uphold the Deschenes name, and not cause poor Daragh any more headaches.
Gwyn was certain the three of them could make a good impression on the Gardiner’s and the royal entourage when they arrived in Lockewood. Perhaps they could even build some new friendships, and connections with so many nobles there. But although this was her chance to meet some of the royal family, the person she was most excited to see was Lady Annemarie who had to have been behind their invitation. Although, Gwynevere had asked that both Daragh and Lord Gardiner keep her acceptance of the visit to her friend a secret so she could surprise her. After how long it had been since the two had seen each other the girl thought it would be nice to surprise her friend since she rarely had the opportunity to do so. After years of not seeing one another or speaking in person Gwynevere hadn’t quite realized how much she missed spending time with Annemarie until now. Certainly Kael and Breena were sweet enough to Gwyn’s ramblings, but medicine wasn’t as interesting to them as it was to her. The two women shared a mutual thirst for knowledge, and drive for mastering their studies. It was rare to find another person in the world with such interests making Gwynevere treasure their friendship even more.
As they passed through the gates and onto the estates of the Gardiners the girl forced herself to concentrate on directing her steed in order to keep herself calm, and collected. Although her continence seemed calmed and collected on the outside the girl could feel herself trembling. Glancing back a moment at her two companions the girl couldn’t help the grin on her face, “I still can’t believe we are here! Isn’t it exciting?” Gwynevere’s grin only faltered some when she noticed the smirk on her twin’s face. It was obvious he was holding himself back from teasing her making the girl giggle, “Oh hush! You need to practice being a gentleman remember?”
“Gwyn…we’re here…” Kael said as flatly as he could muster watching his sister trying her hardest to maintain ladylike composure.
The girl blinked looking forward as she her steed started to slow on its own thanks to Em’s training. They were finally here! Her blue eyes widened while looking over the castle of the Gardiner’s as she pulled her steed to a stop. It was all so different yet so similar to their home that Gwynevere found herself slightly overwhelmed. Taking a breath she watched as the pages approached their group to make introductions and send word back to the house that guests had indeed arrived. As conversation was being made Gwynevere managed to pulled aside one of the pages requesting they inform Lady Annemarie that one of her old friends had arrived in the courtyard.
