Mariette's hand was as soft and gentle as he imagined it would be. The rest of her were akin to her hands, then Tristan would be right in describing her as a truly angelic beauty. Indeed, the man held a great internal conflict over the matter. On the one hand, she would object to being held to such a lofty standard. She very likely did not view herself as an angel, but simply a young woman with a fortunate birth. Yet, to Tristan, it was imposssible for him not to make such a comparison. That she was so humble, sweet and good was in itself an angelic quality. It made him happy that he had this problem. This particular problem was far better than many of the others in the world, or in his life.
Seeing her gape made him laugh happily, enjoying the fact that he had managed to surprise her so thoroughly. "Oh, the first partner? I do not see how he is going to say no to that." Already, he could imagine the Marshal flustering and attempting to find some sort of excuse not to do it. Instead, she would turn her large pretty eyes on him in silent plea. The man would melt, he was sure of it. What man wouldn't under such a powerful look? Indeed, Tristan wondered if she knew the power she could wield over others. It was likely she did not... and Tristan was perfectly fine with that. "I will get you a surprise." On that note, he gave her a naturally charming but mysterious smile.
But, before she could ask anything more, he led her inside the building. Rather than move like a pair of highborn adults, he moved almost like an excited teenager, eager to show a pretty girl something truly wonderful. A passing scholar seemed puzzled as to their presence, but he did not ask on it. Rather, he muttered to himself before moving on before shaking his head. Tristan didn't seem to notice. He was far too busy guiding her carefully up the spiral staircase. He hoped she didn't get dizzy!
