Character Name: Maricela Sandoval
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Birthdate: December 30th, 1406
City / Region: Talencia, Nacimiento
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Sandoval
Played by: Alexandra Daddario
Appearance: She is always refined in however she chooses to dress, often of designs of her own making and at times extremely luxurious purchased pieces. Never does she step foot outside her chamber without being done up, and in fact one might wonder if she sleeps with hair and face made. Maricela is a fan of perfumes and accessories, and savvies herself knowledgeable of everything fashion-related. If anything, she fancies herself a trendsetter of highest class, and many a woman, especially those closer to Nacimiento, has immitated her style.
Personality: One might suggest that Maricela is fickle, but the fact remains that she rarely makes a decision without having considered it carefully - for her own gain, of course. The order of importance to the lady is herself, her House, her designs. Friends of hers are lavishly rewarded, without rhyme or reason, and just the same her enemies or rivals are snubbed and relentlessly punished. She dares others to cross her to give her the excuse to release some pent up... tension... upon their sorry being. That said, she doesn't life a finger in a physical fight, there are hired persons and men aplenty for that. She picks and chooses her battles carefully, and while it may seem she lets another win a battle, she never gives up the war.
In light of recent events - see: multiple deaths, kidnappings, and the likes - around Archades, she has become more quiet, more careful, more reserved and calculating. Even, she appears to be more refined, more graceful. She has "forgiven" established petty rivalries with many a woman in exchange for buying some friendships and alliances at a time where she suspects the tides are changing, that war of many kinds is at foot. Though not quite into politics as the likes of her older siblings, Maricela knows that things are changing and must be ready to ceize the opportunities that will come. She is consolidating her influence, whether through her love for secrets and gossip, her social soirées, and her own status as a bachelorette.
She is perhaps overwhelmingly materialistic, and spoiled into it no less. She loves receiving gifts, and treasures her possessions like a dragon over it's gold. She intends only to continue to spend - and to earn - and it would cripple her to ever be cast into poverty. She has high expectations of herself and of the people around herself, and believes that these standards are what makes the royal and noble woman, a lesson woefully forgotten by some. Appearance can be everything, a good first impression, a lasting impression. She is not ignorant of the fact that a woman's looks and position can get her places and has no qualms about using those facts.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Character History: Maricela was born third of five, though has in many ways felt like an only child. Not for lack of warmth between she and her sibblings; to the contrary, Maricela was always rather charismatic and involved with her family. However, she always craved attention, to be spoiled, to go first, to be best at everything. Though she was not the only star of the group, she had been largely left to those beliefs, endearing herself to the title of Princess and the fine luxuries that accompany the title.
Her growth was not without challenges. She was not the swiftest in her studies, easily outshined by just about every sibling, and frustrated with herself besides. But she was never a quitter, and even her completed education was more than adequate for the standards of a noble person. Maricela tried her hand at a few physical activities, but besides the shooting of a bow - which she found could be done while maintaining poise and cleanliness - had little interest for such things. She also lacked a great interest in politics, and was happy to be blissfully unaware of most things in that area - anything aside from the movements of the Deveraux. She has coveted the Royal seat, if not for her than for her brother or sister, and has never been able to shake that jealousy.
By years appropriate for it, Maricela made her social debut and was easily a charm to her peers. She dressed and spoke the part, learned to dance and sit and stand the part too. She loved to be around people, and people enjoyed being around her. She got into snits, most notably with her own cousin Rosalinda, with whom Maricela has always been quite competitive. Thankfully, while she could be quite spiteful, she could also easily forgive and turn a cheek. Never a slight forgotten, but perhaps an apology would get her closer to what she wanted.
The attention of the men around her was never lost, nor the subject of her own eventual wedding. Her sights were set high, to no one's surprise. Though she looked at becoming Duchess, the men of such title were quickly becoming numbered. In recent times, she had been nurturing a friendship if not courtship with Duke Reed Gardiner. While not in his presence, however, Maricela has always kept choice company. She never would go wanting for dance partners, but never allowed even the hint of a rumour that she might have done a thing indecent. Everything that could influence her future was of utmost delicacy.
She had chosen to see the gathering in Faucheux not as a slap in the face, but as the opportunity to usurp the present leaders of their Kingdom, to reclaim what was theirs. She made quick work of hosting parties, small and large, to make new friends, to expand her dress design market, essentially to build influence and opportunity for herself. Additionally to being available to her older siblings for their requests, she has prided herself with having a choice ear in place to hear all sorts of tales and secrets. She is in no rush for their sejourn to end, but perhaps more and more excited as the days go, tasting the success of their family on the tip of her tongue.
Writing Sample: The hour was very early, so much so that Sinead rather doubted that anyone else was awake, serving girls and boys included. She had to get up - again - to relieve herself in that frequency that is a plague to pregnant women. She did so as quietly as she could without waking her husband whose mind was troubled enough as it was during the day that she needn't disturb his sleep. With bladder empty, for what precious time that might last, she wrapped herself in something warm and heavy and went to sit by the window.
The birds had started to flee for the upcoming season, mild as it was in comparison to other regions of the realm. It was too early to hear their singing voice even though she could hear their daily chime in her head. Sinead reached for the quilt she had been working on, determined to do just a bit of it every time she woke and could not sleep. This way, by the time the baby arrived, its first gift would be ready. She had prepared a quilt for each of her young, and it was a tradition she felt she needed to continue now.
The action soothed her. It allowed her to calm her frayed nerves, to turn off her wandering mind, to relax her body just long enough that she could sometimes yawn and return to bed where the warm body of her husband usually lay. Other mornings, she remained awake and if necessary would succumb to a nap in the noon hours where the sun was the hottest which made labouring outside the least convenient. Deft fingers wove her thick needle in and out, applying the first edge of the next piece to the design, never once pricking her skin, the rhytmn distracting her from the fact that she was not the only one awake in the room as she thought.
