While Isobel did not regret her voyage northwards to Vasile, she was utterly glad to be home. The trip had been somewhat traumatic to the Lady who had never seen much outside of her home in Marlowe before now. In that sense, she was glad for the exercise of it. She was ever grateful to the Crown Princess for the opportunity, and to Marie-Louise in whom she'd found a friendship more so than a job. Her rapport with the other Ladies had also grown, a connection she'd yearned for since she was a little girl. She was living the fantasy she'd dreamed of, being connected to the Royal Household and exploring the world.
And yet, with all the good came all the nasty, and realities which she disliked lingering upon for too long. Normally, Isobel Cameron was passionate and pragmatic in equal parts, able to dream big but also see the lines of duty and reality. Now, she just felt exhausted and, in her heart, she worried that the world was more evil than she had imagined it as being. She worried that her world would never be again quite the same, peaceful place it had been.
Upon their return to Bordelaix, thus, she was granted leave to visit her family's home for some time, perhaps as a measure of readjusting. She had a place to live at the palace now, but it was foreign to her. She had barely slept there a few nights before they had packed up and left for the broken Duchy. The Cameron home was much more comfortable and recognizable to her. She felt a bit of a traitor for being so glad to return home, as though she were ungrateful for her new station, but couldn't help herself.
Finally the carriage that drove her was heading down the familiar street towards their temporary home-away-from-home, and she had to force herself to remain lady like in lieu of scrambling down the step and dashing madly into the residence. She sighed a breath of relief as she was greeted by the footman at the door, and again by the servants who were idling about their duties. Isobel removed her gloves as she walked, and peered into room after room. Distantly she knew she wouldn't find her brother here, Tamhas, but just about any face would suffice.
The face she did find made hers light up. Now Isobel did pick up her skirts and quickly crossed the short distance across the room towards Niall Cameron, her father. "Father! Oh, I missed you so much," she admitted, sighing as she pulled herself into his arms, seeking his comfort.
