Appearance: She's a bit on the taller side, standing at 5'7. She has dark brown hair which is usually kept in a braid, hazel-green almond shaped eyes that change color depending on her mood; the more brown they are the more pissed off she is. When she actually smiles it's a bright one that shows off twin dimples. She has a slim, athletic figure and her voice when she speaks is warm and slightly soft. Has a scar across left shoulder from a fall on rocks when she was little. She prefers to dress in clothing she can move freely in, most often in leggings, tunics, and sturdy boots for climbing and all of it in shades to match the forests and rocks of her surroundings such as grey, brown, and green. She often has sturdy gloves with her too. When she's made to wear dresses she prefers dark shades of blue and green.
Specific Skills or Abilities: Since she lives near the coast she's an expert swimmer. She is sure-footed and can climb rocks and trees with almost no difficulties. She can ride a horse but she's not an expert rider. She fights with either dagger or staff and has fast reflexes. She is ambidextrous though she's better with the right hand when it comes to using the dagger. She also cold reads people instinctively which tells her whether or not they're lying. She also had an eidetic memory where she can perfectly recall anything she sees. Has a way with animals in that she's not afraid of them and they know they can trust her.
Personality: Dara is intelligent and a bit on the stubborn side. She's not an easy one to anger though annoy is more likely. She has little to no patience for foolishness. She most often prefers solitude or the company of animals than that of others. She's usually guarded with people she doesn't know well and can often be snarky. She doesn't really want to be married off but fears such will be her fate as first girl child. If she must be wed she secretly hopes that they will respect her warrior ways and would in fact, be warriors themselves. Her virtues are that she's loyal, compassionate, gentle with children and animals, and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Character History: Rossalyn Adara Penrose, or "Dara" as she prefers, was the first daughter born to Donnchadh Penrose and Niamh Connell. She had two older brothers, Tavist and Duncan, and one younger sister, Tyra. She loved her younger sister and they were close. As she wasn't too far behind her brothers in years and as such she had grown up following after them or spying on them when they were practice fighting so she learned a lot without being formally taught.
One day, after some months had gone by and she had been spying on her brothers; she was alone, practicing with her staff what she had learned from said spying. Thus far she had managed to avoid having her brothers find out about what she'd been up to, even though female fighters were permitted in Vulcanis even for first born daughters. She just knew they would tease her unmercifully and she didn't feel like dealing with it. But as in all things, her luck couldn't hold forever and they happened upon her that day. As she had expected they teased and made fun of her and she lost her temper and challenged them both to fight. They accepted thinking it would be an easy win as it was two against one. It was an easy win all right - for her. Being smaller (and thus lighter) with quick reflexes allowed her to get the best of her brothers and she truly didn't mean to hit Duncan so hard that she dislocated his shoulder!
Upon hearing of the altercation Donnchadh immediately insisted that she report to her brothers' instructors for proper lessoning. While he was impressed by his daughter's abilities he also understood that without proper training she could just as easily be a liability as an asset during a time of conflict and he'd prefer the former option.
Dara quickly proved to be a profecient student and was soon on par with her siblings. With the way things are unsettled in the region thanks to the Cruach family she wanted to be prepared for the battle she felt was looming ahead.
Her mother Niamh felt that Rossalyn should go to the Harvest festivities in Bordelaix and at least explore the option of finding a husband, despite Dara's protests that she was not interested in such at present time. Finally at her mother's insistence she agreed to go but only if her cousin Brody, the cousin she was closest to growing up for he never made fun of her or teased her the way some of the other male cousins did (and for which she secretly adored him) would be her escort. Arrangements were quickly made and off she went.
Writing Sample: "I didn't mean to break Duncan's shoulder Father, truly I didn't!" Dara said to Donnchadh a short while after her sparring match with her brothers. Her brother had already been to the family physician. "You didn't break it girl, you just dislocated it. It's already been reset and will mend shortly though it will hurt for a bit." Though the pronosis was better as far as what she thought she had done she still cringed at hearing it. Her father gave her a stern look. "Now then, since it's clear that you have some decent skill as a fighter you are to report tomorrow morning to the ring for proper training. Can't have you injuring your family and allies during a skirmish now can I?" Though he tried to look fierce he couldn't stop the sides of his lips from turning up in a small grin. He was pretty impressed by what she'd done, though he would never admit it of course.
