Departing the main hall after the discussion with the Lord Marshall and the Prices where the order came to raise the banners and meet to begin a punitive action against Lindblum, Anneliese wearily climbed the stairs to the suite she shared with her cousin Alaric. She disliked the prospect of what lay ahead, but a royal command was not one to be ignored. Lindblum committed an unforgivable act, one that demanded a swift answer. The banners were called, therefore House Vann would answer.
Her thoughts strayed briefly to Gabriel, her lost brother whom she felt confident more every day was dead. An abduction would have brought a ransom demand by now, so that was not it. Anneliese steeled herself against hope that he might be alive, knowing it was all but impossible now. However, that also raised an issue - until her father accepted Gabriel's loss, that meant it technically fell to her to lead the Vann banners. Alaric. she knew, would object strenuously.
Would he do it? She had no way to know, but regardless, they had little to no time to fight it out. Now that they had their marching orders and the date in hand, it was time to pack up and head back to Otterloh to summon the vassals, old and new, and get them gathered to reach the indicated location in the time allotted to them by the Lord Marshal. Suppressing a sigh, Anneliese stepped into the suite and called for her maid, knowing the woman was within, preparing the small chamber she occupied for bed.
"Adelheid, get my trunk out, please. There is packing to do, as we'll be leaving come dawn." The maid emerged with a puzzled scowl, as if uncertain that she'd heard Anneliese correctly. The Vann lady met her with a firm look, one that made it clear she'd meant every syllable. "Where is Lord Alaric?"
