Character Name:
Leilah bint Qasim al-Khalid
Age:
18
Gender:
Female
Birthdate:
13 April 1410
City / Region:
Zahran, Rohari
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]:
Born al-Khalid
Played by:
Rome Shadanloo
Appearance:
Leilah is tall and slender, a typical hourglass figure. Her skin is a rich dark caramel color, smooth and silken looking as she is a fond lover of lotions of all kinds. As opposed to her siblings, she in fact has brown hair instead of the stark black the others have, which is an oddity in her realm but not so much that she is outcasted for it. She takes great care in her personal hygiene and so even her hair is always well kept and well groomed. She enjoys dressing in simple, neutral colors and clothing that allows her free movement, but she does enjoy the dress up games she gets to play in lustrous beaded gowns and veils. Her eyes are a warm hazel color, and often times are outlined in a dark liner all around, allowing her eyes to pop.
She does, however, enjoy dabbling in disguise. Using different make ups and clothing she is quite adept at mimicry and blending in with a crowd when she wants to be gone, when she wants to disappear. Leilah also enjoys using it to her advantage, and playing games with others (especially her family).
Personality:
Leilah could be explained as a very kind person with a wild soul. Life does not wait for anyone, it is up to each person to start living their own lives while they can. It does not matter how hard she would try to collect herself because she always ends up to fly away in second thoughts. It is always something else that catches her attention when she tries to concentrate in a calmer activity. Calming activities such as reading books has never fit her. As a hands-on person fits practical activities her much better where she really gets a chance to shine. Activities such as sword fighting, horse riding and hunting.
She enjoys the company of others, but is especially fond of gentleman companionship. She isn't the type to throw herself down, but she is quite a flirt, seductive, and enjoys toying with them. But one day, she hopes to find true love in the heat.
Ordinarily she doesn't enjoy political conversations, but will sit in on them to learn the ways as she someday may need to know that skill. She does, however, enjoy deep philosophical topics and could spend hours chatting away about it. Even though she cannot seem to keep herself tethered to the ground, or keep herself quiet, there are those few things that can and deep meaningful conversation is one of them.
Even though she wants to do as she is told she has always found it difficult to follow rules. Sometimes she agree with other people's opinions but there is also times when she thinks differently and have to change course to follow her own way. For example, she found it very difficult to live a life of serenity in one place and feel a constant need to seek out into the desert as if it was calling on her. It's a pretty strange feeling because she wants to stay with her family but there is still something within her that wants to go. Maybe it's because they were wandering people from the beginning. Maybe not. But there is still nothing more satisfying to her than to ride out in the desert hunting with a falcon on her arm. The longer in the desert, the better.
Leilah has finally been able to learn to read and write, though she does have difficulties with both. She also has a problem with biting her tongue. She can be cleverly outspoken which isn't becoming of her, but it shows her true character and the fact that she is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Leilah can come off as abrasive, straightforward, and all too honest, but she believes you need to call a wolf a wolf and a liar a liar, to try to not sugarcoat anything in life if she can help it.
Above all else, she loves and is loyal to her family, despite differences and scuffles, and arguments abound.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Speed and fast reactions
Her active personality has also given her several advantages. For example, she is very fast and lithe, which became her biggest strength of swordsmanship. By being quick-witted, she can make quick decisions under stressful situations with an impressive responsiveness that has rescued her out of most situations. Can be anything from a punch as an unexpected reaction from the horse she rides.
Balance, riding and dancing
According Leilah goes these three together in one. To be able to ride she needs balance and riding should be harmoniously as a dance. She really has a huge balance. Riding bareback is no problem for her. In case if she needs a challenge in balance, she can always stand on horseback while it moves. Dance is a big interest of hers and with a feeling for music, she has evolved to become a very good dancer.
Numbers
While the letters are causing problems for her are numbers almost childishly easy for her to handle. She doesn't love to spend time inside to count but she found it very easy with numbers. Everything with them are so logical! Even really difficult math problems is easy for her because she sees logical solutions without any effort. It's very rare for her to not being able to solve a math problem.
Animal Training
With a keen interest in ethology and psychology, she has developed a third interest - the training of animals. These interests have evolved the ability to train animals. For as soon as she involved animals in her interests so was learning so easy. Her technique may not be the fastest to results but she tends to emphasize something extra. A free will.
Practical
It doesn't really matter what it's for activity. As a whole, she found it a lot simpler with practical activities rather than the theoretical. To get instructions verbally is thus much more difficult for her to understand than getting a sword in her hands and act.
Character History:
Even as a child Leilah had been active, finding it difficult to sit still. Studies have always been a big problem for her because such a large part out of it is about reading and writing. It was really because of her persistence mentor that she actually managed to get through all studies and learned the basics she was supposed to learn.
Leilah was a child who was a bit all over the place and not always where she should be. Her excuse was often that she needed to take a breath of fresh air or had a little break even though she in fact had ran away. She lied rarely straight off but it was not unusual that she went around the truth with beautiful words to avoid being caught.
Being a guard to her has always been a mission of mixed feelings because she is nice to be with but incredibly fast so it's very easy to lose her. Suffice to let eyes from her for just a few seconds and she was gone. Not always she kept in special places, she really was everywhere and nowhere, which did not make it easier to find her once she was gone.
Visitors have always been fun for change in her everyday life which one of them really made an impression in Leilah's life. There was a man with a white falcon who spoke about his adventures in the desert and his cooperation with the falcon in hunting. Even today Leilah remember the man even though she has long forgotten his name. Remember how he looked, how the falcon looked like, how the horse looked... but above all - the stories. After the man's visit Leilah began to nag about getting her own falcon and after a few years she also got, to her happiness, her own falcon. With these stories in her mind, she began to train her falcon for all sorts of tricks, but mostly she focused on hunting. An activity that she later became more and more interested about.
Not long after she had her first falcon she tried to talk about getting a own horse, a discussion that wasn't very successful. Instead, she was content to take care of one of her father's horses as her own. By calling the horse, sometimes, for being hers in her father's presence she also made subtle reminders that it "could" be hers in the hope that he might change his mind.
Her relationships with her family is quite good. Sometimes she tend to go on their nerves but she thinks they do the same to her by making bad decisions or setting up stupid rules. Her opinions of her older sister is being too serious, her little sister acts like a little princess, Bashir cares a bit too much about his appearance and her father is way too stubborn. She also knows that Amirah is their fathers cute little daughter, Bahir is like the perfect son and Sabriyah holds a lot on her shoulders while Leilah herself sometimes wonders where her place in her family is. Feeling a bit like the black sheep that doesn't fit anywhere or is supposed to be someone she's not.
Writing Sample:
Leilah had been so happy that she had finally been able to talk her father into her very own horse. Sabah had been a prized mare in a neighboring stable. A fine specimen of an Akhal Teke and her father purchased her for Leilah. She had never been more happy in her lifetime than when she came to the stables to take care of her father's steed and found the golden animal in a stall with her name on it. That had been two years prior, and the mare was just over 4 years old, but their bond was as strong as though Leilah had raised her herself, because she nearly had now. A soft, sweet nicker echoed through the elegant stable, the mare's head poking out from her stall to greet Leilah, who opened her door and let the equine race out into the sunlight where her coat glistened like gemstones. When she had settled for a mere moment, Leilah had raced forward and lept up onto her back, her fingers tangling in her cremello mane. It was seconds, they were off, racing towards the desert and the wild woman felt alive and free again.
