The people of Seravino follow the old ways of their home, observing the rituals of the Triune. Two gods and their chosen prophet comprise the trio, each representing a different face and aspect of the faith.
Paternos (The Father) - He is the Creator of all life and the earth, the keeper of justice and the dispenser of wisdom. Often represented by an old man with a white beard clothed in red and gold, he is the only seated personage of the Triune, often crowned with laurel leaves. Paternos is viewed as the All Father, a kindly but stern figure that guides, blesses and punishes as is necessary. The other aspects of the Triune are perceived as deferring to Paternos as the more senior of the trio. It is to Paternos that nobles pray for counsel and guidance, leaders of fighters appeal for courage and children for healthful growth and development.
Filios (The Son) - He is viewed as the god of Men, the living representative of all things Masculine. He is the patron of the arts of war, the defender of the heavens and the earth, the hand of Paternos’s justice, and the judge of souls. Viewed as a golden haired man wearing armor, bearing a sword and shield, he stands at the right hand of Paternos with an unsmiling visage. He is believed to have emerged from Paternos’s mind, fully formed as his Son and Defender. Most revered by men, he holds equal rank in the Triune with the Prophet.
Aerternia (The Prophet) - The sole female of the Triune, she is the direct opposite of Filios, the living representative of all things Feminine. She is the patron of peace, the defender of the home and hearth, the giver of health, and the holder of Time. Standing at the left hand of Paternos, she is a young and beautiful woman with rich red hair and a bright smile, wearing a gown of gold-bordered green. Crowned with flowers, she carries a cornucopia with fruits, vegetables and grains, and at her feet sits a lamb. As Filios emerged from Paternos’s mind, Aerternia is believed to have come from his belly as if born as a miracle, his Daughter and Nurturer. Most revered by women, she is fully equal to Filios, serving as the Voice of Paternos to those who walk the earth.
It is said that to receive a visit from one of the Triune is a sign. If Paternos comes, then the sign is that of advancement or a test of leadership. If it is Filios, a war comes, or death. And if it is Aerternia, change to land and lives. Those who receive these visitations are encouraged to listen closely, as they are blessed by the Triune to carry the words of the trio to the people.
The hierarchy of the Triune is simple. There is a Chosen, who bears the blessing of all three, to head the church and advise the Duke. The Chosen may be either man or woman. Beneath the Chosen are three High Priests, one to represent each face of the Triune. These High Priests select and train the Priests who minister to the people of the duchy, ensuring that the work continues without cease.
The theological differences of the Triune between the regions of Calandria and Seravino are minor, but nonetheless significant. The denizens of Seravino, though acknowledging the whole of the Triune, tend to favor Filios being a culture that favors action and justice, especially in light of border disputes with its neighbors.
In Seravino, members of the Priesthood are selected after a rigorous trial of faith, usually under the even gaze of Filios. The trial in question varies from Initiate to Initiate but it is always very trying and exhausting. Only the truly faithful and capable succeed and are allowed to attend the Seminary of Duefuemi. After four years of training, they are ordained as Priests. Typically, there are several priests in each of the cities or wandering the roads to spread and maintain the faith in the Triune. Each city in Seravino has its own High Priest, except for Duefuemi which houses the Chosen.
