What Eirian did not know of Lucien could hardly hurt her. She had no idea of his reputation or his recent fracas with his family, though he'd mentioned the likelihood of serious unpleasantness if he returned to Bordelaix. That made matters somewhat... challenging, yet she held firm to her principles that she could not, would not, leave him injured in the field when she was capable of rendering him aid. "Lucien, then." She smiled faintly at his compliment, a gentle dip of her head acknowledging his kindness.
No matter what he'd done, whom he hurt, he was still a human being and deserved the same milk of human kindness that anyone in need merited. Eirian was not one to judge, especially on first acquaintance. If the loss of her betrothed taught her anything, it was that change came to everyone - how they emerged from that change was a matter of choice. Perhaps Lucien had made poor choices before, yet given a chance, he might see the error of his ways and rise to become a better man. "You are kind to offer, sir, but I do no less than any decent person would do. Come, let me help you to your feet."
Her hand extended to his, she blinked in surprise when he graced it with a courtly kiss, one that made her features soften again. Eirian's heart might be closed, but she was still woman enough to appreciate a gentleman's efforts. Laughing quietly, she shook her head at his flattery but offered no argument. "Lean on me. It will be a bit of a walk, but we will manage until we reach my guards, then they can help."
