Standing as hostess and de facto Marchioness to aid her brother left Kattalin adept even at her relatively young age at being able to talk to anyone about anything. Rafael made it easier than most, as he was congenial, relaxed company, an excellent listener and a man who didn't seem surprised that she could be quiet at times. No one could chatter non-stop, not even she! Occasionally, it was pleasant to be silent, to listen to the world around one's self, and to enjoy a few minutes of peace. Knowing that he could do the same without feeling pressure to speak only made Rafael Sandoval better company in her book.
Glancing away before he read too much of her homesickness, her weariness of the forthcoming chess game of politics and the inherent dangers facing her family as a consequence, Kattalin plucked up a leaf that fell on the blanket to study it, turning it over in her hand to trace the veins with a delicate forefinger. A faint smile tugged at her lips to hear his artfully delivered compliment, though she doubted he intended it as such. From what she came to understand of Rafael, he was simply being honest. "Wine and cheese are very nice, though I am glad you are so kind as to give me these respites." Her head turned to look at him once more. "I do not like the games that we are about to be forced to play, however skilled I might be at them. Realistically, I know they cannot be avoided."
She sighed, glancing back towards the water before she purposely changed the subject. "Tell me more of your family, please? Your brothers and sisters? What are they like?"
