True to her word, Angelia sent an invitation to Lord Alexander Romanov and his lady to join her brother Sebastian and herself for the pleasure of a shared meal and fine wines as well as excellent company. After some discussion with her brother, she decided that the dinner party should take place in one of the city's finer inns, well reputed for its fine food and vintages, assured privacy while dining and commendable service. The arrangements were made and the invitation penned, sent to the address Sebastian provided that served the Royal Archivist and the Apothecary to the Royal Household as their residence while in Bordelaix.
Intending to leave little to chance, Angelia departed early for the inn to ensure that the room solicited for the event was to her standards. As she entered with the innkeeper at her elbow, blue eyes swept the chamber in assessment. She noted its cleanliness, a must in her mind. The table was draped with a clean linen cloth, set with the dishes and stemware she'd selected, flowers on the table and short candles that flickered invitingly. A sideboard held a selection of wines and other liquors along with a dish of nuts and dried fruits to nibble on. The windows were opened to the night air, overlooking the street, allowing fresh air to waft in and dispel the lingering heat of the day.
"Excellent," she bestowed her approval, showing her appreciation on a monetary level as the innkeeper assured her the menu she'd chosen was well under way and would be ready to serve at her indication. She had only to ring for him, he informed her, and he would send the servers with each course. Angelia had already rewarded the inn handsomely for their cooperation, the better to secure the evening's success. "Thank you," she added with a faint smile.
The innkeeper bowed himself out, leaving her alone in the private dining room to take advantage of the room's mirror to check her appearance. Knowing how important this meeting was to Sebastian and his hopes of the future, she wanted to look her best, a hand rising to smooth her hair and settle the folds of the dusty rose gown. Her brother would be along shortly, as would their guests. A smile curved her lips, looking forward to this.
