The plans for the travel into Vasile were set, but the matter of her personal retinue was not. Nicolette took the morning to think on those who might benefit most and aid her in the greatest manner by accompanying the Princesses into the northern duchy. One name rose to the top of her list as an excellent means of gauging skills, experience and testing resolve. Her uncle Jean-Luc's youngest son, her cousin Julien.
The young man was of course known to her as were all of her cousins. Each Deveraux had their respective skills, yet Nicolette was intrigued to learn that Julien eschewed the martial arts in favor of the arts of the court and politics. He was a slimly-built young man in comparison to his elder brothers, ill-suited in her opinion to the rigors of sword and shield, but ideally moulded for the intricacies of bureaucratic service to the Crown. She had not had the opportunity to speak with either Julien or Jean-Luc on the matter, an oversight Nicolette intended to remedy forthwith.
Sending a request for both father and son to join her in the library for a brief discussion, she awaited them as she formed the plan in her mind. If all went as she intended, Julien would join her on the journey to Vasile to stand as an unofficial advisor and an additional pairs of eyes and ears to gather crucial information on the Duke. Nicolette anticipated a protest from Jean-Luc, marshalling her arguments in support of the plan if needed. High time that Julien was granted his opportunity to prove himself capable, she believed. Awaiting their arrival, she smoothed hair and gown absently, drawing herself to stand tall and regal as a Crown Princess ought.
