Upon receiving the missive from Lord Deliambre to request a meeting in order to discuss a potential betrothal, Nicolette promptly replied with a date and time after consulting with her cousin Henri. The lady in question was his daughter, after all, and the man had a voice in the betrothal negotiations. Uncertain whether Lord Deliambre intended to accompany the Jaufret lord to the meeting, she was prepared either way.
By agreement, neither Henri nor Nicolette spoke of the meeting to Evony, refusing to get the young lady's hopes up should they prove unable to reach a suitable accord. She had little doubt of that, to be sure; Evony was on one of the family tree's lower branches, but still very much a Deveraux. Admittedly, the Crown Princess and de facto head of the Deveraux family was astonished by the speed at which matters were progressing, further surprised to see that Henri, by contrast, was not at all taken aback.
Trusting him, she agreed that as matches went, it could be a good one. Lord Gregoire Jaufret, they confirmed, was the Count's heir and a solid young man who served under Lord Deliambre. More would be discovered through careful questioning and some verification conducted quietly by the Deverauxs. Barring unforeseen issues and circumstances, Nicolette hoped to be able to wish her cousin much happiness.
Waiting for the varied interested parties in the small library of the palace, she had a table waiting for them with a scribe situated near at hand to draw up the betrothal agreement if they were able to reach terms this morning. Dressed simply but with a circlet of gold resting on her hair to indicate her rank, Nicolette glanced over the sheaf of papers that was the suggested terms Julien put together, listening for the first to join her.
