Modesty was a suit to wear when you are the heir, you lived knowing you're a back up plan and stuck with the grief should that day ever come both from the new found duty and the loss of a kinsman as least that's how Rowan had always viewed it. He was aware however there would some heirs who couldn't wait for the title holder to die by some accident for the sake of power. But when the Crown Princes took back her words only enough to not make her a comparison of him to her, he chuckled, very slightly blushing.
"Please your Royal Highness you honor me greatly, you've no need to apologize I understood your meaning." He was unaware his face was being studied by the Crown Princess of all people, though he would never be one to even suggest his face was worth looking at. But with a laugh and another compliment that was he could admit... very unexpected he chuckled softly. "Thank you, though I doubt I am that much better of a man than that many and you seem to tolerate being so close on this sunny day though we are blessed with the shade of this tree." He could only hope to learn the intricacies and the patience of such a game one day.
But she seemed to agree with his assessment of the situation concerning the attack on the royal caravan, it was something that had bothered Rowan for some time. If they were indeed Shelbourne bandits he'd been remiss in his duties greatly to have let it grown to such a degree. "Thank you, I try my best to... be candid to my duties." He added before she seemed to rub her forehead likely in though before she continued with an opinion of her own or in the very least a possible proposal.
"Your Royal Highness, I cannot presume to know the thoughts of his Grace... but I would think he would be eager to know who would violate Shelbourne's peace in such a way. It has been the main concern on my mind... if it was Shelbourne bandits then perhaps I haven't been vigilant enough... but if not then I for one would like to know who was so bold to had led them or dare I suggest.. employed them."
It was a scary thought that someone would employed brigands or mercenaries for such a cause, but not outside the scope of reality.
