No news had come from Bordelaix in a while; no surprise with the majority of the royal family sequestered in Vasile. A letter had come from the Dowager Duchess, informing them of the Duke's cozying up to the youngest of the Princesses and urging the Sandovals to action. Accordingly, Joaquin had called his two eldest to his study to consider fresh strategy. They emerged with a fresh idea, one that involved a cousin who made it explicitly clear that she would not be exempted from the family's plans to regain former prominence.
Angelia was mildly startled by her father's suggestion to send Rosalinda with Rafael and Maricela to Lockewood, yet Dante saw the wisdom in it. After several minutes' discussion, she was compelled to concede that the plan was a clever one; the impetus was equally on the young women to ensnare the Duke's attention for themselves and secure his hand in marriage, bringing yet another of the Archadean dukes under the Sandoval banner. Rosalinda was an ideal choice, Joaquin reminded them, not only because she and Cela were friends, but she was still very much licking her wounds still over losing out to her cousin Elena. This would be an ideal distraction for the feisty, fiery Sandoval cousin.
She had some reservations still, but the time had come to reveal the new plan to Rosalinda so that she had adequate time to prepare for the journey. Despite the significant risk they took in bringing their cousin to Anzio, knowing that both Elena and Lord Montefiore would be present, Angelia trusted that Rosa would rise above the recent blow and conduct herself admirably. Sandoval pride demanded no less.
Now situated back in her chamber with Dante beside her, the twins sent a page to request Lady Rosalinda's presence in joining them for some wine, cheese and conversation. The trappings of civility were important to Rosalinda, they both knew, and a good way to ease her into the knowledge that no Sandoval was exempt from the plans unfolding for the future.
