The topic of humor was likely one they could debate for days without reaching a consensus; accordingly, Angelia set it aside rather than pursue it. Aldano was who he wanted to be, the skills he honed those which he felt suited him most effectively in accomplishing what he wanted. That, she reminded herself, was truly the point, not her opinion. Instead, she simply waited for his reply to her question regarding the Ibarra family. Estersea was neighbor to Desmira, thus developing cordial relations could serve Aldano's agenda well, especially as it could further curtail Rohari's unwelcome efforts.
Inclining her head in combined acknowledgment of thanks and his reply, she further waited to hear what Aldano had to say regarding Rafael, if anything. Her brother continued to be a cause for concern in her mind, despite her efforts in helping to prepare him for the role he would acquire on their father's death. No small blessing that Joaquin was in excellent health, as far as Angelia was concerned; the more time she had to indoctrinate Rafe in the ways, methods and behaviors expected of a Sandoval heir, the better. Aldano was her superior in a number of areas; what he taught Rafe could only benefit the entire family, and she was grateful for her cousin's willingness to assist her.
Seeing the shift in Aldano's expression, she almost wanted to chuckle. On rare occasions, Angelia found Aldano tended to keep his circle very small, perhaps too small. "He is family by marriage, an unshakeable ally, and considering the location of Calandria, he is ideally situated to resume control over the Royal Navy. That was a mistake for which the Deverauxs continue to pay as Nicolette did not bother to correct it," Angelia added dryly, "The admiralty was awarded to someone who did not have half the Deliambres' experience in sailing, fighting, or building ships. I also understand that Lord Deliambre is entering into a trade consortium with Lord Ibarra that will involve goods from Sokoku."
She waited to hear his reaction to that, wondering how much Aldano knew versus what he believed of their southernmost allies.
