The morning after the family conference saw Nicolette up with the sun, surrounding herself with sister, lady in waiting and a request for her uncle to join her once his morning training regimen was complete. She knew Jean-Luc preferred to keep his routine, the training used to keep his body honed and his mind focused. Though he was growing older, she had no doubts that he could best many men half his age with energy and skill to spare, then take on the Royal Council with his accustomed charm. Today, she needed him in the capacity of advisor, the better to begin crafting the plan that would begin securing their legacy as the reigning family of Archades.
A simple but bountiful breakfast awaited his arrival, knowing that the food would help fuel their discussion from which the decisions that needed to be made would come. She wore no smile this morning, a stack of foolscap and a number of well-sharpened quills at the ready to begin the varied dispatches that would fly from Lockewood. If all well as she intended, those who would be given in marriage would meet their future spouses upon their return to Bordelaix; those who would be fostered would meet their masters and those intended for diplomacy would begin their work during the Lakeside Festival. Deciding who would fill which role was today's agenda.
Seated at a square table, Antoinette was seated at her right; Jean-Luc was to be seated at her left with the scribe opposite her, ready to take notes and from there, draft the orders for each family member. Nicolette's seal stood at the ready, the wax beside it, to render the dispatches into orders from the Crown Princess. Once the Lord Marshal arrived, the day would begin.
