Awakening that morning with fresh resolve, Nicolette was ready to put thoughts into action. Anticipating that the invitation to Montenoire would be accepted, she needed to start preparing for their arrivals, in addition to securing the safety of certain members of not only her family but the Romanovs. The Gardiners had been congenial hosts, yet she felt somewhat constrained by the location, whereas in Bordelaix, the Crown Princess knew herself to be on solid, well known ground. Requesting that her cousin Julien, now one of her most trusted advisers, and her uncle join her, the time had come to start issuing marching orders, as it were.
Prepared for them with a considerable list of those impacted and how this would be handled, there would be other topics broached, not the least of which was their respective opinions on the matter of security, investigations into the attacks on both the Deveraux and the Romanov families, and the official transfers of custody on several people into the Royal Household. She had plenty of work to do, intending to delegate it somewhat while needing Jean-Luc's approval on certain matters. His cooperation and blessing would not be easily obtained, yet remained necessary.
Until they arrived, the eldest Deveraux daughter toiled diligently at a broad table piled with the necessary parchments, ink and quills, along with her seal. She did not always rely on the skills of a scribe, preferring to take a more personal approach to certain issues, her golden head bent over the work with one ear trained towards the sounds of approaching people. Tired of being behind the eight ball, it was time for them to gain some forward momentum and march boldly into the future.
