The pieces of her regency were beginning to click into place, much to Nicolette's satisfaction. She did not delude herself into thinking everything would progress smoothly, or easily - certainly the fealty ceremony had been ample proof of that! - but for the first week of her efforts, some progress was made in transitioning the throne's power to her. She had a few loose ends to tend to, of course, not the least of which was Vasile and the young Romanov woman whom she'd taken as a ward. Nicolette did not view Elsa as a burden, not in the slightest, but in light of all the young woman had recently endured, felt it was time that she was given a firm foundation on which to begin building her future.
With that in mind, she requested that one of the pages bring her cousin Pierre to meet with her. Of all the Deverauxs, he was the one most familiar with Lady Elsa and knew where her heart and mind stood. Wanting to take both of those into account before any arrangements were made, she wanted to speak with him and obtain his opinion on the options she was contemplating where Elsa was concerned. A marriage would be ideal, of course; the young woman deserved to enjoy the protection of marriage and the attentions and affections of a congenial gentleman. Barring that, the young lady could be incorporated into one of her sisters' households, likely Mariette's or Juliette's, as a lady in waiting.
Waiting for her cousin's arrival, Nicolette was aware Pierre had his own agenda for the future, knowing her brother had his eye on the Knight Commander position. They could likely discuss that as well. Sir Bastien was not improving, and the physicians gravely advised her that he would not likely be able to resume active duty. Making a note of it, the Crown Princess smiled wryly to herself. It seemed there was more than one loose end to be tied up today.
