The first day of their arrival were mostly just formal greetings followed by a private dinner being delivered to the rooms of all of their guests. They had endured quite a bit of traveling and the last thing it seemed that any of them wanted to deal with was a high fashioned formal evening immediately after coming in through the mountain pass. Instead Marcus had it set up so that all of them could take proper baths at various times, and then arranged for a few of the private dining rooms to be served based on who wanted to eat first and when. In order to be hospitable, Marcus came by to say hello and good evening to make sure everyone was well accommodated before turning in.
But tonight was different. After a full day’s rest and recuperation the Duke of Vasile had an entire evening planned all thanks to Claudia’s immaculate coordination skills. Naturally a lovely dinner was had in the grand dining hall where all were invited to sit and enjoy a meal so that they could converse on a cursory level to get to know one another. Already he sensed that Antoinette was less than pleased, as she spared no self-restraint in getting a sharp little quip in every once in a while at his state of dress and other small affairs. But Marcus let that roll off of his back like water on duck feathers as he occasionally fired an equally amusing sentiment back and even threw Juliette a wink at one point when he saw a mutual smirk on her face.
The main event, however, had come at last. Chances are they would have one more evening like this to bid his guests farewell in the weeks to come, but for now this would be the chance to merge cultures and customs into one room. A few of the barons had made it to Vanderhall, while the priestesses of Arcandus and Nashala watched from the sidelines. The Nashala priestess kept seated more often than not, being five months pregnant and deciding to take it easy for the night. Both women whispering back and forth as they watched and observed how things were progressing with casual amusement.
Given that the Crowned Princess was the main guest, Marcus decided to take the first dance with her as a result. The musicians finished tuning their instruments and began the night with a beautiful song called Mná Na hÉirann. As the harps softly eased into the tune the rest of the musicians allowed the gentle majesty of its sound fill the great hall with sense of calm. It was a good way to ease into the evening as a bit of Archades music began the evening for now. Making his way over to Nicolette and the rest of the princesses, he bowed before the four of them before going, “Your Royal Highness…I believe it is customary as our Guest of Honor to be the first to have this dance.”
Happily he reached out and awaited the answer from Nicolette of whom he was likely to get to know further the more they were able to exchange conversation. Whether it was through dance or by meals he didn’t mind either. But he had intent on dancing with more than one fair princess this evening. That much he was sure of.
