If Ruadhan were annoyed that he had revealed such a facet of himself, he made no indication of such. Truly, there were a number of clans that loved the forest in Vulcanis, or so he hoped! To him, it should only be natural than a clansman of the region would love all nature that surrounded them. After all, it was from this nature from whence their food and livelihood came. Certainly, the volcanoes far to the south had wreaked havoc upon the world, but in his mind, he focused on the good that ultimately came of it. This forest, for instance, would not be nearly as lush were it not for the ash that scattered across the lands. At least, that was he felt about it.
As they picked their way deeper into the forest, he could not help but be gently amused by her question. There was just the slightest hint of trepidation in her forest, but it was clearly overwhelmed by the curiosity that was innate. “Not very, no,” he reassured her, understanding the concern. They were, after all, venturing through a forest at night. Children were often warned against such activity, their guardians weaving tales of beasts and horrors if only to keep them safe.
Yet, here they were, venturing into that very danger. Fortunately, they eventually emerged from into a small grove. The grove glowed ethereally seeming to banish the night into the deep shadows of the forest. The glow, however, was not solely due to the moon, but also to the star lilies that blanketed the ground. The place seemed to signal that not only horrors lurked within the first, but good spirits, as well.
