Games of chance were of no interest to the littlest Delacroix. Of course, she was too young to participate, anyway, so it didn't really matter if they were of interest to her or not. But that didn't mean she wasn't going to have a good time, anyway. The evening found the little blonde running around with her sister, Atalie, causing a bit of a ruckus as they always did. Well, mostly it was Ariel that was the instigator, but Atalie usually followed happily and willingly.
Tonight found them playing with a small ball, chasing it around and bouncing it off floors and walls. They were trying not to hit anyone, but they were also somewhat oblivious to the people around them. Of course, most of the people were oblivious to them, too, most of them rather engrossed in their games. The girls were laughing and playing and running through the hall, keeping to the sides and staying near the pillars. It was all fun and games until a bad bounce had their ball finding itself lodged between a pillar and one of the sconces that was filling the room with light.
Atalie frowned, upset that their ball was stuck, but Ariel just smiled and reassured her sister that everything would be alright. "Don't worry, I'll get it!" With a determined look on her face, she started climbing the stone structure, struggling only slightly to get a grip as she slowly worked her way up. It was about seven or eight feet, she figured, and it took her several minutes to get there, but she grinned widely as she reached it, smiling down at her sister in triumph.
However, that smile wasn't about to last too long. She pulled hard on the ball to dislodge it, and when it finally popped free, she lost her grip. Ariel barely registered that she was falling and didn't even have much of a chance to make a sound before she hit the ground flat on her back. She couldn't breathe and she hurt. Everything happened so quickly and time seemed to be crawling as she started to panic, trying to drag air into her lungs again.
