The travel from Bordelaix to the city of Vanderhall passed without incident, much to Mariette's relief. Riding first to the lakeside, the Princes, the Princesses, their ladies, guards and other traveling companions sailed across to Lockewood, then rode north to the city of Ashworth to meet the Lord Marshal at the royal hunting lodge on the outskirts. From there, after passing a night to rest and obtain supplies in the city, the royal party took the roads that led through the hills and into the lower mountains to Vanderhall in anticipation of the gathering.
Charged with restoring order and a semblance of peace to the region of Vasile, the party also had a secondary purpose - to review the assembled nobles in the hopes of selecting a new Duke to rule. The Romanovs had been all too effectively overthrown and their line laid waste, bringing yet another purpose to their venture north - Nicolette wanted an investigation done into the coup and the allegations behind it. All in all, it promised to be the opposite of her visit here a few months ago. This was no idle, social call.
They'd been housed in the castle that bore familiar airs to her, the former home of the Romanov family. The family line was not ended, though those who survived the attacks had scattered to the winds with little knowledge of their whereabouts. The halls seemed a little haunted to Mariette, who remembered how they'd looked during her visit. Brushing aside such thoughts - unlikely the place was full of ghosts - she waited for the various members of the delegation to join her to divide the tasks granted to them and begin their work. There was much to be done, after all, and less time in which to do it. No one would be left idle in this venture.
Each had a task to fulfill.
