Antonia Montefiore Romanov
The early morning rain had finished its work upon the powerful mountains of Vanderhall. Given how the castle was designed, there were multiple layers to its massive architecture. Flat plains were not part of its geography so small, makeshift “gardens” were constructed as jutting verandas from different parts of upper castle. One could easily enjoy the higher altitudes and outdoor air upon such a balcony. With Gardiner knowledge and Romanov ingenuity, Antonia was able to step onto laid out grass and a small garden of flowers bedded into indented cut stone and pots.
She took her time enjoying the irises, smelling them delicately from an appropriate distance. Antonia enjoyed this moment of peace, and every part of Vanderhall was more of her home now than Duefuemi, but she never forgot why she was here in the first place. Her part in marrying Octavian was originally to help build a stronger alliance between the Montefiores and the Romanovs. As the years progressed, and as King Alexandre was unable to be given a son, Antonia’s presence in the Romanov household was just as important now as it was ever intended to be before.
They were bound to have a royal visit that much Antonia knew. The Deverauxs had only a single marriage alliance through her granddaughter, Natasha. Even that marriage Antonia did not agree with but she had no power over those decisions. Valdis was adamant about keeping Vasile in good balance, and while that man was alive she smiled and nodded as was expected of her. But with her husband gone, and grandson Marcus at the helm, maybe things could shift in another direction?
But her mood soured thinking back on the night of the dance. If she was to have any success in latching her capricious grandson to the right lady, she needed a stronger presence on her side. A letter had already been sent and hopefully she would hear back to a favorable reply.
