Perhaps Lady Caterina underestimated the influence she wielded, yet it was not Angelia's place to contradict her. She barely knew the lady, and what she knew of the Montefiore family was taken largely from Elena's letters and her own father's recollections. Though Angelia had indeed been introduced to the Duke upon his arrival to select a bride, she herself had not been a potential candidate. Still, she smiled gently, sitting to one side flanked by Maricela, the other by Caterina.
The discussions began and inwardly she winced, though her face remained smoothly serene. A glance to Rafael tacitly reminded him to stay on point; there could be talk of the future and alliance once this feud was settled. A nod acknowledged what the Seravino duke said, understanding the need to point out the obvious, though her brow rose as the response from the Calandrian duke. And then after her brothers spoke, the Deliambre lord spoke again.
Angelia again remained silentl, but upon feeling movement to her side, shifted to study Caterina. Anger radiated from the lady, along with a healthy measure - if she was any judge - of righteous indignation. A gentle, restraining hand rested lightly on Caterina's arm as she leaned closer, murmuring solely for Caterina's ears. "Take a breath, my lady, and consider what was said." More counsel than that was not offered, and Angelia doubted it would be welcomed. However, there was undoubted intelligence behind Caterina's dark eyes; the key to cooling her fire was to engage that active mind.
She glanced over as Elisabeta spoke, unable to contain her frown. Levying unfounded accusations towards the Deveraux was a trifle hasty, if not unwise, and once more, she endeavored to catch Rafael's and Dante's eyes in a silent entreaty to assert some control over the situation before it escalated. The pot was simmering now, but the increased heat made boiling over an all too real possibility.
