Sinead’s brain was one mess of thoughts and emotions that even she had no hope of detangling soon. Her husband had been injured in what was supposed to be a routine patrol around the Cadag grounds, and was now confined to bed rest on the physician’s advice. She heeded the caution absolutely and made certain that he did not want for anything, though it left the woman to her devices and her many children without him. This situation was not particularly unusual but for the stress that came with the pregnancy and the “situation” that was the Cruach’s looking to become High Laird.
It had taken some effort, but she had managed to convince both husband and Laird to allow her to meet with her cousin, Ruadhan, who was Laird in his own right of her birth clan, Clan Connell. She missed him, wanted to be around family, and knew he would never risk harming her even had she not been pregnant. She would be fine, so she reassured her Vaughn men. It was Vortigern’s trust in her, or suspicion perhaps, that she could not as easily manage.
Given the location of the Connell Laird’s camp, she made off with a couple of men as guard to her, leaving her children in the caring hands of Karynne, a woman and mother in their clan which had helped her since her marriage with her children and family. Frankly, Sinead couldn’t be sure whether she was being insane and whether she would somehow be dragged in the middle of this mess, but she couldn’t stand the tension as it was and needed to act. A conversation, a simple hello, a break in the suspicious silence, that was what she wanted.
