The missive arrives bearing the Deveraux family seal, rather than the Royal Seal, the initials N and D entwined with a coronet over both letters. Addressed to the Prince himself, the messenger was instructed to deliver it directly into Anton's hands and wait for a response, whether verbal or written.
My dear cousin Anton -
Forgive my lack of contact prior to now; writing to you while your ship is at sea makes sending missives a little challenging, yet I hope that your most recent venture proved successful. I was glad to hear that you returned to Bordelaix safely despite the damage rendered to your ship. I understand from Pierre that repairs are ongoing, but that your ship's departure has had to be delayed as a consequence.
I cannot be entirely sorry for this as I have need of you more than ever. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for taking you from your ship, but I must ask you to come to Shelbourne with your father and sister at your earliest convenience. The barge is docked at the lakeside for your use, of course, and will be the fastest method of travel to the city of Lockewood, the home of the Duke.
Matters have occurred during our journey from Vasile that compel me to impose on you thus, for which I do again apologize, but our family has need to gather and to speak regarding those matters as well as to render preparations for what may be coming. I feel it best that each Deveraux has their opportunity to voice their opinion on this, and that it cannot wait for our return to Bordelaix.
Please come swiftly, cousin. I look forward to seeing your dear face soon.
Your cousin,
Nicolette
