The day felt like it was an unending whirlwind so far, whisking them from one thing to another until Eirian thought her head was never going to cease its spinning. The unexpected encounter with the Merrick man left Eirian somewhat dazed and confused as she sought to retreat from the markets, intending to carry the news back to Merthen and Regan. Such information was best relayed as soon as possible, she felt, while it was fresh in her mind.
The Tournament all but forgotten as her path diverted from approaching the fields and stands that served those who wished to observe the games, Eirian moved with purpose. She was distracted, nearly forgetting the Connell laird who served as her escort today. Ruadhan had been privy to the strange encounter with the man presented Fearghus's amulet as well, and would be a great asset in explaining to Merthen what occurred. That is, if and when her distracted mind paid heed to the poor man.
Tension lingered in the air between them unresolved since she'd been restored to her family, thanks in large part to the confrontation in which they'd engaged. Ruadhan had not hesitated to voice his opinion then, nearly shouting his refusal to accept her imminently sensible solution. Surprisingly, Eirian had all but shouted back at him, barely speaking to the man beyond politeness since then. He thought her foolishly self-sacrificing; she deemed him domineering beyond his bounds. And both were equally stubborn, refusing to cede any ground to the other.
The discomfort had not remotely dissipated for being thrown together today; there had been no one else to escort her to view the Tournament in which Aemrys was participating save Ruadhan. Eirian had little choice but to accept with a visible effort at graciousness, but the interlude had not been easy on either of them. So caught up in the whirlwind they had been that there'd been no time to clear the air between them... and it did not look to change any time soon.
