Angelia was rather looking forward to spending a quiet evening at home, enjoying a light dinner, a bath and her most recently acquired book. Dante was off about his own business, as was Maricela. Isabella was up in her room writing letters and would join her for supper, she felt sure. Sebastian was still at the Royal Library and would be until late, she imagined. He took his apprenticeship to the Royal Archivist very seriously. The only sibling unaccounted for was Rafael, and she had not seen her brother at all that day, leaving her to wonder what he was up to.
After assuring Bella that she would not need to change clothing for supper - what was the point, when it was just the two of them? - she descended the steps to enter the parlor in order to wait for her sister. Angelia poured two glasses of wine, leaving one on the sideboard for Bella when she arrived, before taking her own to sip while she leafed through a book that Cela left behind. Amused as the story drew her in, she was beginning to question what was taking Bella so long when she heard steps in the foyer.
Lifting her head, her brow furrowed as the tread suggested a foul mood. Compelled to investigate, Angelia set her wine aside and rose to cross to the door. Finding the tread belonged to Rafe was surprise enough, but she was shocked to see his appearance - filthy and stained - where he was normally so very fastidious. She blinked in astonishment, unable to keep from demanding, "What on earth happened to you, Rafe?"
