The news ran rife through the streets, unchecked by shock or the unseemliness of the tale. A member of the Royal Family found foully murdered in one of the city's most unsavory sections, small wonder it was the talk of the markets, streets, and back alleys. Sabriyah had not been able to avoid hearing it, nor had the servants who ventured out of the house the al-Khalid and their guests occupied in the city of Bordelaix. Fear stirred in more than a few hearts and minds, making an already uncomfortable household trend towards downright uneasy.
Armed with that knowledge, Sabriyah waited until her family was gathered for dinner to broach the subject. Their father had already begun the trek back to Zahran with Amirah, and several of the hostages, but it struck her that there was little purpose to their remaining in this city any longer. The agenda pursued by the Caliph was effectively dead in the water thanks to the Crown Princess's all but adamant refusal; they'd gained no ground with the Wetland nobles, who bore little to no respect for them. Why stay when the cold weather was nigh, and the desert waited to embrace them with temperate climes?
Once her siblings and those who joined them for dinner were seated, the first remove placed before them and the servants departed to permit them eat in peace, she glanced at Bashir and spoke. "Do you think it time that we return to Rohari now that there is open murder of the royal family in the streets?" Sabriyah spoke with deliberate callousness, the better to impress upon her brothers that the city was indeed a cesspool no longer fit for them to inhabit. It was time to go home.
